Allegations of genocide and torture against Uighurs and other members of the Muslim minority are not new to China. However, the Beijing government has denied the allegations. Recently, thousands of pictures and some secret government documents have been leaked about the incident. These pictures and documents seem to have once again exposed the truth of the allegations of torture to the world.
Adrian Jenz, a senior fellow at a research institute in Washington, D.C., and a German anthropologist, collected the secret government documents. The revelations come as UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet embarks on a long-awaited visit to Xinjiang. His visit is seen as significant in light of allegations that China is committing "crimes against humanity" against Uighur Muslims.
Human rights activists say Chinese authorities are holding at least one million Uighurs and other members of other Muslim minorities in prisons and jails in Xinjiang province. However, Beijing has argued that training is being provided in these camps to enhance their technical skills. It is needed to deal with 'extremism'.
But photographs taken by police and internal documents provided by anonymous sources to Genz show that detainees did not come here voluntarily for training. Documents leaked to Xinjiang's official database show that top Beijing leaders, including President Xi Jinping, are forcibly removing them.
"These are by far the most important, comprehensive and significant of the documents and evidence leaked from the region (concerning the persecution of Uyghurs)," Adrian Janez told Al Jazeera. These are more worth mentioning than the evidence we have already received. Because these pictures and documents have multidimensional evidence of torture.
The United States has imposed sanctions on a number of Xinjiang officials involved in the violence, despite criticism from around the world. However, Jens says the leaked documents clearly indicate allegations against the Chinese president and the country's central government.
The instructions of the prison camp
The leaked document, 'The Xinjiang Police Files', has been published online as a special project called 'Victims of Communism Memorial Fund'. Anthropologist Janez is also working on this project.
These documents provide detailed instructions on how to conduct concentration camps, how to use force against camp inmates, and how a guard with a sniper rifle and machine gun can monitor the Watchtower.
The document also quotes Chen Quangguo, a former general secretary of the Communist Party of Xinjiang. He made the statement in an internal discussion of government officials in 2016.
It is alleged that the ambassador provided the information to security forces. At the same time, Chen Quangyu called on Xinjiang region officials to keep "believers under strict control."
According to classified documents, in 2016, Chinese Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi discussed detention camps in another internal discussion. He spoke in support of the US Alliance, but said that maintaining some independence was important for President Xi Jinping.
About five thousand pictures have been leaked about the incident of torture. These alarming pictures were taken from the concentration camps. Of them, 2,084 are Uyghur Muslims. The pictures were taken by the police officers on duty in the camp.
At first, China was reluctant to accept the detention. However, later in 2016, Esebeizing reported that technical training was given in the camps. And members of other ethnic groups, including the Uyghurs, have volunteered for training there.
However, the leaked photos and documents show that Chinese leaders view these minorities as a security threat. Proof of this is the statement of the Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi. The leaked statement was heard warning him that more than two million people in southern Xinjiang have been "severely affected by religious extremism."
