Anderson-Broad over Warne-McGrath


Yesterday he touched the record . James Anderson and Stuart Broad took it today. England's pacer duo is now the most successful bowling duo in Test history. They surpassed the pair of Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath in the Mount Manganui Test.

Stuart Broad took the wicket of Neil Wagner on the second day of the first Test against New Zealand, taking Anderson's partnership to 1000 wickets. Today in New Zealand's second innings, Broad gave the first breakthrough by bowling Devon Conway, they overtook Warne-McGrath with that wicket. Warne and McGrath took 1001 wickets together in 104 Tests.

Conway's wicket was Broad and Anderson's 1002nd in Tests played together. Broad took 4 wickets today, all four bowled. Kane Williamson, Tom Latham and Tom Blundell are back after Conway.

Anderson made his Test debut in 2003, Broad's in 2007. The two played together for the first time in 2008 against New Zealand in Wellington. The 2023 Mt Manganui Test is their 133rd in their career. Anderson, the most successful pacer in Test history, has taken 525 wickets so far in these Tests. And Broad's share is 480 wickets there. 

Perono Anderson has 678 wickets in his 40-year career so far. Broad took 571 wickets at the age of 36.

Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Bhas are third in the list of the most successful pairs in Tests. Both of them took 895 wickets in Tests played together. Then West Indies pace duo Courtney Walsh and Kurtley Ambrose with 762 wickets. In the top five is another pair of Australia - Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon. These two have taken 580 wickets together.
